In a press release today, September 5, AT&T announced the launch of Text to 9-1-1 trial in the state of Tennessee. This will be a standards-based solution and enable AT&T subscribers to send emergency texts to 9-1-1 statewide.
Over the past few years, the state of Tennessee has invested in a new Emergency Service IP Network (ESInet) to coordinate emergency responses. AT&T will work with the Tennessee Emergency Communications Board (TECB) to take advantage of this new network. This service will allow for SMS messages from AT&T wireless subscribers to be received by Tennessee 9-1-1 call centers.
